30 Days is a social experiment I invented to my own delight and detriment. It's my way of slowing down the world and focusing on a single subject for an entire month no matter what life throws your way. It's also a bit of a style thing. Hope you like it.

Day 1

On my way to work when we decided to run up to my roof for a quick picture. This coat is AMAZING because it was $25 and people always ask if it’s Marc Jacobs. The skirt was $20 from a thrift store too. And yellow polka dots are just good!

Day 2

I was in action! Ha! I love white tee shirts and really dark, untreated denim. These jeans were $35 from H&M, I just cropped them a bit. I think they look much fancier and more expensive than they really are. My cardigan is from Opening Ceremony.

Day 3

At the Tracy Reese showroom… I’m wearing a “subtle” animal print blouse and marled cardigan—both by Tracy Reese, my boss and friend. My high-waisted Acne jeans are tried and true favorites. They fit me perfectly. Which is a good thing, because I wear them almost every day.

Day 4

Having a drink at Elsa in the east village and I gotta say, I really like my colors today! But that angora sweater smells like a grandmother no matter what I do. I love those tights too. They are ripping and I keep trying to save them with clear nail polish.

Day 5

Looking for some last minute fabric to fill a hole in the Frock collection. These glasses have changed my LIFE. When I’m hung over you can’t really tell because of the distractingly large (and rad) frames. I met the coolest woman in NYC buying them. Her name is Linda Director and she has some serious style. My oversized rust sweater is by Tracy Reese.

Day 6

This dress is the best…it has a pleated, stiff cotton skirt and a soft, silk bodice. The boots I’m wearing were an obsession forever. They finally were marked down enough for me to splurge. They’re Junya Watanabe and are my answer to feminine combat boots. I love a sweet dress with a tougher boot.

Day 7

This is one of those perfect days in Central Park, the kind that leather jackets were made for. Mine is by Tracy Reese. My scarf is from Madewell and will make several appearances in the next 30 days (I’m sure). Stripes make everything more fun.

Day 8

Me at work in a zig-zag print skirt from work. I love this print! I altered the skirt to fit high on the waist. That necklace is funny and great. It’s by Gerard Yosca and has a dinosaur on it. He is so fun!

Day 9

I was on my way to see a friend’s band play and wanted to be comfortable. I love my Madewell top. Not only because one of my best friends works for the company…it’s also plaid! Those jeans are great too. They’re from Oak and make my ass feel HOT!

Day 10

This skirt is one of my favorite purchases this year. I was with my good friend Chris and we were just about to leave it at the store until he knocked some sense into me. It was only $20, it’s leather, high-waisted, and really FITS. The blouse is another goodie from Madewell and the bag is a cool find from Argentina.

Day 11

I was just about to leave for a party at the Tracy Reese store but had to finish one more thing. This dress is from Frock. It really accentuates the waist and makes you feel good!

Day 12

I’m at a photography exhibit at the Morrison Hotel Gallery. There are those Acne jeans again! That green is the BEST GREEN…I love this shade! The cardigan’s from Tracy Reese. The black appliqué adds some edge.

Day 13

I was dancing around my apartment with my friend, Joe. He was rehearsing for a holiday talent show at work. This dress has a built-in petticoat underneath. It makes you feel like a GIRL! That necklace is from Gerard…God love ‘em.

Day 14

We were all cooking dinner together at my friend’s place (lasagna!). This blouse has a simple hand-drawn stripe on it. I think the cream buttons look like candy you want to eat.

Day 15

I really love Sonia Rykiel and my high-waisted knit skirt is one of my favorite Sonia pieces. That vintage beaded collar was a Chelsea flea market find. I couldn’t live without it!

Day 16

This vintage shirt is UGLY CUTE. I have always loved it and am constantly surprised by the amount of compliments I get when I wear it. Those jeans are my favorite shade of tomato red. I was so delirious that day…super late night. No sleep.

Day 17

This plaid dress is by Plenty. I like that the border is so non-traditional. These are my obsession-boots again. Junya Watanabe should be paying ME by now I’ve worn them so often during this project. It’s just that damn Victorian-esque heel that makes me love them so much.

Day 18

I was visiting my friend Joe who works at In God We Trust in the Lower East Side. I think we scared some of the customers away with our foolery. Sorry! My favorite thing in this picture is my necklace. I had just bought it in Argentina at one of the amazing flea markets there for $3. It’s an old bull-fighter’s whistle.

Day 19

I think everyone needs a little lame in their life...gold, silver, leopard print…any of it will do. I tend to play everything else down to make room for all that sparkle. Of course there’s always room for stripes.

Day 20

McCarren park is right outside of my apartment and lately I’ve seen some really amusing outfits from my window going around the track. This jumpsuit is from Fluke, a vintage store in Williamsburg. You can’t see the details but there are these awesome cut-outs at the shoulders and down the back. That coat was my mom’s in the 70’s. It’s grey leather!!!

Day 21

This jacket is RAD because it’s all black sequins with big white buttons (so random)! There are those Madewell stripes again and my favorite Acne jeans. My shoes were super-cheap, but they are cute and so easy to wear all day long without any pain. That’s a plus in my book.

Day 22

Wow, I look serious! Hey, shoes are serious work. This dress is a new purchase. I like it because it’s a little bit country, a little bit rock n’ roll. Also, it has snaps all the way down so if you needed to, you could rip that sucker right off!
Day 23

I’m on my bike in McCarren park. Bike riding is my favorite thing to do. My coat has a really cool, architectural shape and ¾ sleeves. You need long gloves if it’s cold out. These are from Club Monaco.

Day 24

OK, OK, I don’t think I look my best here, but it was a really tough day and this is real life! I worked super hard on the print for that blouse though. I’m proud of that!

Day 25

I’m showing a buyer the Frock summer collection. This dress is an older Tracy Reese number but I’ll love it forever. It reminds me of a tennis dress from the 20’s.

Day 26

Getting ready to go out. That’s my bedroom! My dress is from H&M. I like to belt it and wear it with chunky tights.

Day 27

I’m having a dinner party at my house. This skirt is totally faded at the hem but I kind of like that. It was $6 at a thrift store. My tee has Coco Chanel on it and my sweater is by Tracy Reese

Day 28

I got red wine all over me and my friend, Joe is doing a little spot cleaning! This dress reminds me of Jean Shrimpton in the 60’s. It is from my favorite vintage store called Off Broadway in my hometown, Albuquerque, NM.

Day 29

This vintage dress is so prim. I love the white fold-down collar. I always feel cute in this dress. I’ve been reading a biography about Elvis and I think his style in permeating mine!

Day 30

I think this picture turned out CUTE even though I wasn’t in a great mood that day. That dress is by Tracy Reese but I shortened it and took it in a bit. We were at Diner in Williamsburg have a late brunch.

Day 1

Day 1 is a mystery day. Michael told me about the project but I did not know that I would be starting so soon. On this day, I was at work and I had just returned from partying at my good judy from Morehouse 30th birthday in D.C. As we traveled back to NY we went thrifting and I found these vintage Ralph Lauren country collection suede pants with fringe down the side. I recall this morning vividly because it took me 16 minutes to get the leather, riding boot over the suede pants, but nonetheless I made it to work safely and unharmed effortlessly! ha!

Day 2

So it was Thursday after-work cocktail time and I felt like a sailor. As you are following through these 30 days, you will realize I enjoy themes. I did not realize I had so many nautical pieces in my closet.

Day 3

Today I had a photography shoot where I was one of the models. It is always scary and funny being on the other side of the camera. I guess I will get use to it somehow. This broach that I turned into a bowtie is another wonderful D.C. trip find at Unique Thrift Store. I am really a one hit wonder because you will be seeing this piece again! I paired it with my RL cashmere holiday sweater. This was my holiday outfit for every party!

Day 4

Today I had a brief meeting with the Alvin Ailey PR department about dressing them for Alvin Ailey's 50th anniversary gala. Michael met me in front of the building and I thought I needed to be a little stern with these women, who turned out to be sweet as pie, so I opted for a strong motorcycle chicness.

Day 5

When you get my full deal I do not stray away from conventional menswear. I just like to play around with fabrics and textures. This may have been my sexiest day ever. I was meeting a model friend after work for coffee and we were just sitting on these bar stools in the cafe in Hells Kitchen. My thighs were literally on FIRE.

Day 6

By now Michael and I our almost best buds. He ventures up to Harlem to catch me on an off day at the barbershop. I go to one of the best barbers in New York who happens to be Dominican and very handsome. So you can thank Fantal for the wonderful face and mug shots during these 30 days. I own three pairs of sneakers and these leather converses are essential. It is a real relaxed day in DOHA at the barbershop.

Day 7

"When Sunday Comes"

You see I am totally a Southern church boy and Sunday brings out the best in my clothes and me. This is a beautiful winter Sunday in my apartment sitting in my favorite chair after service reflecting on the Word!! I am wearing a dismantled usher uniform. We wear black suits, but I wear a black tuxedo. The key item in this ensemble is my too small ultra tailored lil boy 14 Brooks Brothers shirt.

Day 8

Today was probably one of the most “real” days you’ll see me living. Mr. Fine caught me in the act of running and doing my steps. I attempt to work out 3 times a week. (I know you didn’t think this physique was all natural). At times like these you won’t get sequins or stir-ups, just a cashmere royal shawl neck sweater, my favorite gym shorts and an orange ski vest for safety and warmth. The most couture object in the shot is the location: City College. The buildings are amazing. I like doing the steps there because it gives me a little taste of Europe.

Day 9

It’s a quiet day at work, around 5pm, and I’m on set 3 checking email. I am going through a colorless phase where I only want to wear black grey and white. Cream is an actual colour and it makes me feel fresh and renewed like a virgin. I do not believe in wearing a designer head to toe, but in the case of attaining a consistent cream colour in my cords and cardigan, it was necessary. Oh, and here is my favorite neckpiece again!

Day 10

This vintage military pea coat is probably one of my best purchases this season. It finishes every look of mine. On this day I am doing showroom returns in the fabric district. And for the record, I was rocking the green glove way before First Lady Michelle. In this picture, it is all about what you cannot see. Underneath my coat, I am wearing a serious long sleeve RL polo shirt with the largest, gaudiest horse head. I finish the riding look off with some little boy baseball pants that make my rump look so right. I couldn’t give it all up to you people, so Michael shot me from the front using my closed jacket as a modesty piece!

Day 11

Sometimes even I don’t feel like changing out of jogging pants and leaving the house. Unfortunately I had to get it together to shop with my friend Omar on 34th street. I’d like to point out that my jogging pants weren’t pulled from the bargain bin. They are Ralph's signature (almost cashmere-feeling) relaxed joggers. Paired with my British Knight trainers and my motorcycle jacket, I may have been the most fashionable person in that overcrowded, tourist area. I take that back. Omar is one of the most done people I know.

Day 12

Usually I do not believe in going below 14th street unless it is for parties. Today I was rushing to meet with a friend after work for drinks. Here is my favorite coat from Metropolis with a serious splash of colour from my red stretch jean. I have two pairs of great riding boots that got me through winter in New York. I thought my canvas Louis Vuitton bag was relegated to summer 08, but it’s started to make cameos throughout the winter because of my need for more colour!

Day 13

I have a thing for cobalt blue. It may seem like I live a very social life, but I really do. Tonight after work I met my Best Rory for drinks at a new Thursday hangout on 23rd street. I cannot say it was the best time, but at least the bar accented my outfit.

Day 14

This day was possibly one of the most interesting days. One great thing about being in New York is that crazy park in the middle of the city. I have only actually been in there a few times and today was probably the best. This is one of my favorite capes that I borrow from my flatmate, Shaun. We have certain items that are “house pieces” and I am trying to make this cape become one of them. The patent glove is a gift from a dear friend. I do not know how I lived without them being in my life before. My black super skinny Levi’s leads way to my ultra slutty nude shoe. This image feels like some sort of historical reference to a preacher. I am actually reading my Bible and from the look of it, I it seems like I am on a pulpit trying to deliver New York City from bad fashion sins.

Day 15

Snow Day

It is a serious mystery how you can wake up to a few feet of snow in New York on any given day. Today was one of the first days that the snow has actually stuck to the ground. Michael caught me as I was heading to a photo shoot in DUMBO. This area is so cute actually too cute, but thank goodness it is too small to become like other trendy neighborhoods in Bk. Whenever I see white on the ground I always think of wearing my favorite white jeans. This is probably one of my most practical outfits because the thigh warmers come in handy and my little cable knit skully is for warmth. Underneath is a lack luster green shawl collar sweater. This sweater makes me feel like a Tuskegee Airman!!

Day 16

Today it seriously rained and snowed all afternoon as I was shopping for a client. I was with my friends, David and Omar and we found some great treasures in unexpected places. I love when you leave your apt and you are not appropiately dressed for the weather because that is when you really use your creativity. I was on the hunt for some thermal underwear until I stumbled upon some thigh warmers that I thought were scrap material at first glance. So the outfit you see here is not what I left my apt wearing, but it is a combination of a new pair of socks, some awesome thigh warmers and a frisky new umbrella.

Day 17

This probably one of my favorite days. Do you not love it when you find that right piece in your wardrobe that just saves the day everyday? This black slinky almost see through turtle neck from Sisley is mine. It is amazing because it is light weight and too small. This is after a long day of working on an empty RL set at work. I had an art director, Meagan, for this shot. She positioned me in the correct spot in front of a hollywood style makeup table. This shot is an ode to Billie D and Huey P with a Diana Ross twist.

Day 18

There is nothing like a saturday morning in Harlem. If I do not have to leave my apt on the weekend I do not. It is a lazy morning and I am enjoying tea in my favorite chair while wearing my navy pajamas. These are my favorite frames from Fabulous Fannies and one of my most comfortable cardigans. My friends laugh at me because I sleep in this cardigan. I cannot really wear this in public because I have seen too many people with such a signature piece.

Day 19

Some days when you look so awesome, you can feel so shitty. I was walking from Church and the wind somehow blew my favorite vintage clip on bow tie off. I made it home anyhow bowtieless, but wearing one of my favorite capes. Sometimes you just need colour in your life to make life better. And nothingelse can make you feel more fabulous than a cape. Capes are lost staples in the male wardrobe. Now the frames that I am wearing are my real reading glasses and somehow I have seem to have lost them since this picture. So if anyone knows the whereabouts of any of these mentioned pieces please contact me or my stage manager at 555-fashionmisfit.com. There is a reward with no questions asked.

Day 20

I guess I am in cape fever. It is mildly rainy day in the west village. I am on a pilgrimage to grab a disc from a photographer of a shoot I did last weekend. I am compiling photographs of fashion/fetish shots. My friends and I are eventually going to publish this risque book in 2010.
Whenever I am not feeling like myself, I seemingly find myself through my attire. It was one of those days when NY was not giving me what I needed. In this picture I feel very Londontown with a white jean in the middle of winter. I hardly ever pre-plan my outfits, but my mohair cape accented the plaid umbrella very well. I had never worn this cashmere cable knit turtle neck and I realized why. That thing is just too hot!

Day 21

The one great thing about working on the west side highway is the view of the pier. We often times come out here and have lunch. I am wearing my favorite nautical Escada blazer. Very themed and fitting, the red ship is an added extra to my affect. This nude shoe is another slutty favorite.
